It wasn’t too long ago that A-Rod and main squeeze Kate Hudson were witnessed dining at Ruby’s on Purchase Street — they’re apparently big fans of the oysters. Now we have proof that former New York Knickerbocker Allan Houston is partial to Longford’s Ice Cream. The shooting guard with the beautiful shot was spotted enjoying a cup of the delectable treat not long after 2 p.m. right outside of the Rye Smoke Shop.
The shot pictured above is one of my favorite sports moments. Watching that game in 1999 with my father and brother is a fond memory, and I don’t think I’ll ever forget the joy I felt when Houston’s runner bounced in to complete a Knicks upset over the despised Miami Heat. The shot propelled a group of underdogs — including favorites Larry Johnson, Latrell Sprewell and Marcus Camby — to the 1999 Finals. Although they were eventually defeated 4-1 by the Spurs, it was the first and only time a No. 8 seed made it that far. I think we — the Knicks included — were all just happy to be there.
Thanks for the memories, Allan. They’re pretty much the last good ones we have regarding the moribund franchise.
