Wildcats Edge Gryphons in WCC Thriller

May 23, 2011

Leave it up to Rye Country Day and Holy Child to play a golf match that comes down to the final hole. The local rivals did just that May 11 at Westchester Country Club, as RCDS freshman Summer Kitahara – the No. 5 player – sank a shot on the 9th hole to give the Wildcats a 3-2 victory.

Rye Country Day hasn’t missed a step this season with new head coach Marie Vlcek at the helm. They’re 9-2-1 and prepared to go for a three-peat at the Fairchester Athletic Association championship May 23. Junior captain Katie Cole and senior captain Lauren Schumaker have led the way, with sophomore Skye McCaine and junior Taryn Clary providing support in the top five.

The season is already underway, which means the Wildcats are well on their way in attempting to repeat the success of recent spring campaigns.

Boys’ Golf

On the heels of a fifth consecutive NYSAIS State title and Rye Country Day’s second FAA boys’ golf championship in school history, the Wildcats return in 2011 with their murderer’s row of Brian Starker, Colin McDade, James Kennedy, and Harrison Baker  intact.

Wildcats Win League Championship; Freshman Takes Individual Crown

June 11, 2010

There was no stopping the Rye Country Day girls’ golf team on the greens this year, as the Wildcats roared to a second consecutive Fairchester Athletic Association league championship. The team finished 8-2 thanks to a roster so deep it was almost unfair. Alexa Greene, Catie Cole, Larke Nimocks, Lauren Schumaker, Madison Friedman, Nina Stoupnitzky, Samantha Coughlin, Skye McCaine, Taryn Clary and Taylor Katzovitz all had a say in propelling Rye Country Day to a 21-2 record over a two-year span.

The 2010 FAA champions

“Winning the FAA two years in a row is very much like winning a NYSAIS State title two straight years,” said head coach Bob TeCarr. “It can be attributed to an outstanding group of talented athletes.”

RCDS Spring Programs Primed to Add to School’s State Crowns

March 29, 2010

The 2009-10 school year already has been a banner one at Rye Country Day. With three State titles in the bag, the Wildcats are hungry for more as the spring season rolls in.

Boys’ Lacrosse

Rye Country Day was an unrelenting, buzzsaw in 2009, cutting opposing teams to ribbons in their march to a 17-2 record and both the Fairchester Athletic Association and Western New England Division II championship.

The two-pronged engine of that prolific offense – Cody Levine and J.P. Garry – has graduated, but the Wildcats possess a group of four captains who will form the backbone of the 2010 model. Seniors Harry Razook, attack, and midfielder Chris Seter will be heavily relied upon as the only two returning offensive starters. Goaltender Chandler Grinell and defensemen Jack Mandy, seniors as well, are a pair who can spearhead what Rye Country Day hopes is a physical brand of defense.

Harry Razook

“We have a great group of seniors who have worked extremely hard throughout their time here and have meant a lot to this program,” said head coach Matt Rosolen. “Also, we return every defensive player from last year’s team and need their experience and talent to lead throughout the season, especially at the onset as we develop our more inexperienced players.”
