Tennis Players Set to Take on Cancer

Sam King, a former Rye resident who attended Midland School and now lives in Rye Brook, has teamed up with his friend Irwin Reibeisen to host a charity tennis tournament at Byram Hills High School in Armonk August 5-7.

King, a member of Bowdoin College’s tennis team, and Reibeisen, former captain of the Byram Hills team and a rising sophomore at Bucknell, said, “Cancer has affected both of our families, so it’s a very meaningful cause to us. We have set a goal of raising $5,000 to donate to the American Cancer Society of Westchester.”

A silent auction and a benefit concert will be held Friday night featuring Irwin’s brother’s Connecticut band, Voted Most Random, a veteran of the Bamboozle and Warped tours. On Saturday morning from 9-11, there will be a free junior tennis clinic for ages 6-14. Also scheduled Saturday is a pizza party provided by local parlors. Longford’s will host an ice cream party on Sunday. For more information, go to www.charitytennistournament.com.
