Banged-Up Wildcats Survive Meeting with Hopkins

After defeating Hopkins 42-39 at home February 4, the Rye Country Day wrestling team improved to 7-6. Both schools entered the contest riddled by injuries, the result of which was nine forfeits in the 14 scheduled matches.

Ben Lust represented the Wildcats in the first actual match of the day. Although the All-League wrestler fought valiantly – executing five escapes and a takedown – through all four periods, he fell 13-9 in the 125-pound weight class duel. Marc Schneider put the Wildcats on the winning track by pinning his opponent in the second period of the 130-pound battle. Mike Rosenfeld (160) also scored a pin for Rye Country Day. His personal record is now 12-2.

“We have so many good starters out on injuries,” said RCDS head coach Rich Knazik. “Our record should be much better than it is.”

The Wildcats head to Long Island Lutheran February 12 for the New York State Private School Championships.
