Another Summer of Spike Concludes at Rye Town Park

Thanks to Rye Town Beach Volleyball, more than 20 years have gone by since the last reported case of The Mondays at Oakland Beach. The co-ed league, which is under the umbrella of The Sound Shore Youth Foundation, boasted 410 registered members this season and has been an institution on Mondays in the summer from the time it was formed in the late 1980s.

The Shell Raisers

The playoffs concluded August 16, with three teams crowned champions of their respective divisions. In the Competitive bracket, the fourth-seeded Calientes upset the top-ranked Shell Raisers in the finale. Porter House, ranked No. 3 in the Intermediate A division, toppled second-seeded Bayberry to win their category’s ultimate prize. Finally, the underdog Central Crew team, seeded fifth, shocked No. 1 Uncle Henry’s to win the Intermediate B division. Major kudos to league commissioner Tom Thogerson for running another successful season.
