Holy Child has put some of the area’s best basketball teams on the hardwood in recent seasons, with a victory rate close to 75 percent over the past four years. Their 73-26 record during that span has nothing to do with luck, however, and everything to do with offseason preparation and the construction of a foundation for the program.
Gryphons’ head coach Mike Duignan recently wrapped up his annual basketball summer camp, where he worked alongside his daughter, Holy Child senior Julie Duignan. Together, they taught Holy Child’s stars of tomorrow – players like Charlette Brosnan, Christianna Guttridge and Bernadette Grant – the fundamentals of the game.
“The point is to learn life lessons that intertwine with the importance of dedication, teamwork, perseverance, hard work and fun,” said Duignan. “And all this happens while the girls improve their basketball skills.”
