The Rye boys’ lacrosse team channeled the magic of the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays in their season-opener April 1 in Baltimore, defeating Maryland’s Dulaney High School 7-4. The game was played on Homewood Field, the home stadium of the 44-time national champion men’s lacrosse team.
Behind a spirited effort from senior goaltender Michael Linehan (16 saves) and a swarming defense, the Garnets muted the Lions’ offense. On the other side of the field, Rye parlayed a balanced attack to victory. Six different Garnets scored, including senior captain Cole McCormack, juniors Christian Bonaventura (twice), Garrett Chapman, Matt McReddie and Jack O’Callaghan, and sophomore Greg Stern.
“The win really helped make the trip more memorable,” said head coach Brian Dooley. “It was a step in the right direction, however, we definitely need to keep working hard.”
Rye’s next game is April 10 at home against Long Island’s North Shore High School.
