Rye Country Day Has a Basketball Jones

Both the Rye Country Day girls’ and boys’ basketball teams refuse to let the 2009-10 season end. I was able to attend the boys’ game yesterday and, after trailing early 15-7, the third-seeded Wildcats stampeded visiting sixth seed Columbia Prep en route to a 64-48 victory and a berth in the NYSAIS semifinals. Jason Rogers and Lowes Moore each had double-doubles — 13 and 15, and 11 and 12 respectively — but senior Brian Glazewski was a revelation. Although he led in scoring with 14, he managed to do all the little things to help Rye Country Day advance. The Wildcats will face No. 2 Riverdale today on the road at 5 p.m. If they are victorious again, they’ll play for the State championship Sunday at Fieldston at 3 p.m.

On the backs of freshman point guard Carolyn Binder and senior captain Alexandra Osborn-Jones, the fifth-seeded Wildcats upended No. 4 Poly Prep on the road Thursday 56-36. Binder led with 17 points, and OJ recorded a triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks. Rye Country Day will now face No. 1 Staten Island Academy — who defeated Holy Child in the first round — in the NYSAIS semifinals. The winner advances to the State title game Sunday at 11 a.m. in Fieldston.
