Section Semifinals Moved to Saturday

With the Rye ice hockey team’s 5-1 defeat of Fox Lane Wednesday at the Ice Casino, the Garnets advanced to the Division II Section Semifinals. The game was originally scheduled for tonight, but due to the inclement weather it has been shifted to tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Rye will battle Sleepy Hollow, who bested Garnet nemesis Pelham 2-0 on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

“I think our game against RCDS was a very positive step towards the  playoffs for us,” said senior captain Taka Katsuta. “Even though we lost, I think that we played very hard, came out hitting with the intesity that we wanted and were able to put a couple pucks in the net. I felt great going into the Section tournament. We won our quarterfinals game against Fox Lane, and I think that game gave us a lot of confidence moving into the Semifinals.”

The Section final is apparently still on for Sunday at West Point, but that area is currently in a State of Emergency so who knows. I’ll update you as information comes in.

The Ice Garnets are the only local team in playoff action at the moment. Both the boys’ and girls’ RCDS basketball teams lost in their respective FAA playoff games on Wednesday.
