Garnets Look to Stay Hot in Season’s Second Half

At the halfway point of the season, the 9-2 Rye girls’ basketball team is on pace to be playing in late February at the County Center. League play began in earnest earlier this week, and the Garnets are optimistic about the nine remaining games on the schedule. In their only league game to date, Rye throttled rival Harrison 68-30.

“That was totally unexpected and we think they’ll be much tougher when we play them on their home turf later in the season,” said assistant coach Cari Caulway.

Junior center Lillian McCabe is leading the team with an average of 18.6 points per game – fifth highest in Section 1 – and fellow junior forward Catharine Greer is right behind, scoring at a clip of 16.8 per game, good for 10th in the Section. Along with the stellar play of senior captain Karly Fitzgerald, and powerfully aggressive play from Jillian Chittenden and Grace Leishman under the boards, the Garnets are definitely a team that’s going places
