Morning Round-up: Garnets Cruise To Win Over Harrison

The Rye girls’ basketball team improved to 2-0 Tuesday by throttling rival Harrison at home, 68-30. Four Garnets scored in double figures, with Jillian Chittenden leading the way with 15. Lillian McCabe added 14 and dished seven assists, while Karly Fitzgerald and Grace Leishman each netted 10. Rye allowed just 16 points through the first three quarters.

In the pool, the Rye boys’ swimming and diving team also moved to 2-0 on the season. The Garnets bested Keio Academy 87-73 on the road at Manhattanville. Rye’s swimmers took first place in each and every event.

The Rye Neck boys’ basketball team dropped a 52-27 decision to Briarcliff at home. Ryan Pennell and Brendan Crowley combined for 18 points in the loss. At the lanes in White Plains, however, the Panthers’ bowling team defeated Port Chester 5-2.

On the road at King, the Rye Country Day boys’ basketball team kept rolling in a 66-57 win. The Wildcats were paced by Alex Gendelman’s 22 points and six assists. Jason Rogers recorded a double-double, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

In New Haven Conn., Hamden Hall defeated Rye Country Day’s girls’ basketball team 35-33. Alexandra Osborn-Jones led the Wildcats with 13 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Kim McKoy added 7 points.

In a clash between Rye schools, the Rye Country Day girls’ squash team bested Rye High’s squad 7-0 at home. In the No. 1 match, the Wildcats’ Katie Yates won a hard-fought 3-2 decision against the Garnets’ Caroline Whelan.

With a boxscore-filling effort from senior Molly Schauber (eight points, seven boards, six assists), Holy Child’s basketball team topped Brearley on the road 57-31.
