Morning Round-up: Swim team finishes second at Section championships

The Rye girls’ swimming and diving team finished second to Ursuline at the Section 1 championships at Felix Festa Middle School in Nyack. The Garnets ended up with 194.50 points, 91.5 back of first place. Rye swimmers placed in the top three of three different races. Freshman sensation Melissa Fulenwider was amazing in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.29, which was just .18 back of the Section champ’s time. Fulenwider also tied for third in the 50-yard freestyle event. Courtney Ciardiello took third place in the 200-yard freestyle race. Check back here later — as well as in the November 20 edition of The Rye Record — for complete coverage of Rye’s stellar performance at the Section championships.

Rye Neck’s volleyball season came to an end on the road at No. 1 Croton-Harmon. The fourth-seeded Panthers were eliminated from the Class C Section semifinals in a 3-0 sweep.

Despite being tied 0-0 at halftime on the road with a stubborn Masters team, the Rye Country Day girls’ soccer team dominated the second half to come away with a 3-0 victory. Jenna Frank got the Wildcats on the board nine minutes into the half off a through ball from Nicki Rosenbach; four minutes later, Frank scored her second goal on a beautiful little flick over the head of charging Masters keeper Ariel Mack — Liz Judd assisted on this goal. Delaine Powerful finished the Rye scoring when she got behind the Masters keeper on another assist from Rosenbach.  Kayti Faustini had five saves in the Rye goal. Frank and Judd were selected as stars of the game.

The Wildcats, who finished tied for second in the Fairchester Athletic Association, host Greens Farms Academy Monday at 2:30 in the opening round of the league tournament.
