Tuesday Round-up: Regular season winds down

Ahh, it’s that time of the year again. When Halloween looms, it can only mean one thing at Rye High School: the Section playoffs are about to kick into high gear. What we know already is that Rye’s fall teams will be participating, and that most — if not all — are contenders for Section crowns. The football team will play at home Friday at 7 against Poughkeepsie, and the swimming and diving squad jumps in Monday, but the rest of the teams are still waiting for official word. It does look however like we might be privy to a triple header on Friday with the boys’ soccer and field hockey teams joining the football Garnets on the slate. Gonna be a doozy of a day if that’s the case! I don’t know yet what day the volleyball or girls’ soccer team will be playing.

As soon as I find out the official playoff schedule for Rye’s teams (as well as Rye Neck, Holy Child and Rye Country Day), I’ll post the information here.

Rye Country Day’s field hockey team headlined a light day of action Tuesday. They defeated Hackley 2-0 on the road. Jess Hanway and Hannah Lowentheil scored, while Sammy Stavis and Allie Farber assisted. Kate Moelis made six saves in goal for the Wildcats.

Holy Child’s soccer team also picked up a road victory; they beat St. Luke’s 2-0. The Gryphons erased a 1-0 halftime defecit with goals from Mary Kate Mcerlean and Andrea Arnone. Molly Schauber and Arnone recorded assists, and Schauber also recorded six saves in goal.

In their regular season finale, Rye’s volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-20) at Ardsley. Rebecca Choron led the Garnets with 15 kills.
