Weekend Round-up: Rye and Briarcliff fit to be tied

Rye football’s 34-7 win in the Class A Section quarterfinals wasn’t the only action that took place over the weekend.

In a clash of undefeated teams, the Rye girls’ soccer team battled Briarcliff to a 1-1 tie. The game was called in overtime due to lightning. Lia Bellizzi scored for the Garnets — unbeaten in 22 games dating back to last season — and Lexi Hijazi made seven saves in place of Tatiana Saunders.

The Rye field hockey team left Fox Lane with a strong 2-1 victory. Torie Stearns scored twice for the Garnets, who picked up their 12th win in 13 games. It was the regular season finale for Rye.

Rye Neck’s football team was eliminated from the Class C Sectionals after a 34-0 loss in the quarterfinals at Croton-Harmon.

Tess DeRoy and Andrea Arnone scored for Holy Child’s soccer team in a 2-2 tie at home against Hamden Hall.

On the road at Millbrook, Rye Country Day’s field hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision. Clare McClintock scored for the Wildcats.
