Rye’s football team ended Nyack’s reign as Section 1 Class A champions with a 34-7 victory Friday night at Nugent Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Class A playoffs. Cole McCormack devastated the opposition once again, rushing for nearly 160 yards and a score, while Connor Eck was brilliant through the air with 115 yards and two touchdown passes. The six-time Section champion (Class B) Garnets next play Poughkeepsie at home. The day and time are to be determined.
The Indians scored first against Rye (6-1), but the Garnets — who have won three State titles in four years — were able to reel off 34 unanswered including an Eck to Brendan Nagle 42-yard strike to begin the third quarter.
