Morning Round-up: Panthers prepared for showdown

The Rye Neck girls’ tennis team defeated Pleasantville 6-2 at home yesterday, and improved to 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the league. They play Briarcliff, 8-0 in the league, tomorrow at home in a big-time battle for division supremacy. Caroline Lambillotte, Kalyspo Buitoni, and Kyra Babakian led the way over Pleasantville by sweeping the singles portion of the match. The teams of Sage Reisner and Melissa Martini, Cassie Swinghammer and Janell Smith, and Alexandra Tartaglia and Rita Orazi won in doubles.

At Holy Child, the Gryphons’ field hockey team defeated previously undefeated Riverdale Country School 1-0. Helen Brosnan scored for Holy Child in the first half, and was assisted by Katie Amodio. Carrigan Henderson made nine saves in the thrilling victory. The Gryphons are unbeaten in their last five games.

Holy Child’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road at Greens Farms. Molly Schauber made six saves for the Gryphons.

At Horace Greeley, Rye’s girls’ tennis team lost to the Quakers 4-3. Claire Pfister won in second singles, but Olivia Singer lost a heartbreaking match in third singles, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-0. The doubles teams of Allie Sims and Catie McLaughlin, and Laura Nicholas and Paola Peraza won for the Garnets.
