Olivia Nabhan tabbed Lions Club Athlete of the Month

Olivia Nabhan, a senior captain on Rye’s field hockey team, was recently named Lions Club Athlete of the Month for September. Nabhan is a leader on the field and off for the Garnets, and has had much to do with Rye’s otherworldly success in her three years as a varsity starter.

“Through the years I have enjoyed reading The Rye Record and seeing other athletes that I look up to and respect,” said Nabhan. “I feel honored to be a part of this group. I especially enjoy field hockey because I love being on the field and competing in a team effort. I am most happy when we work hard towards a goal and then finally achieve it. It’s a feeling that can’t be matched.”

The Garnets, currently 5-0-1, are an astounding 44-4-2 since the beginning of the 2007 season, which brought them their most recent State championship. Nabhan scored the game-winner in double overtime of that title tilt, and has netted many more since. Rye is currently on a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 15-0.

Field hockey is Nabhan’s passion. The center midfielder/defender has played the game for eight years, and has many awards and accomplishments on her resume. Most recently she was named a Futures Elite player, which means she is among the top 3 percent of all Futures athletes in the United States. Nabhan was also selected as an All-League, All-Section, and All-State player for her efforts in 2008, and was a starter on the Hudson Valley field hockey team’s gold medal winners at the Empire State Games that same year.

In the classroom, the senior boasts a 93 GPA, and has consistently made High Honor Roll since the 6th grade. As for extracurricular activities, Nabhan participates in Sustain, Project Friendship, and the Breast Cancer Awareness Club. She also volunteers her time with the Impact Youth Group, and joined up with Christ’s Church Youth Group on their summer 2007 trip to the Dominican Republic to serve the community there.

Nabhan committed to Colgate University for the Fall of 2010, and is looking forward to becoming a Raider.
