Morning Round-up: Black Hats top Lincoln Hall

Rye Neck football picked up their second win in two weeks by going on the road Saturday and defeating Lincoln Hall 13-8. Quarterback Shane O’Shea put the Black Hats on the board in the second quarter when he kept the ball on 4th and goal at the 1 yard line and ran it in. Frank Pisco had a big game for Rye Neck with 72 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

Rye Country Day’s football team also picked up their second win of the season. They bested St. Luke’s 7-0 at home. Senior captain Brian Glazewski scored the sole touchdown of the game, and ran for 89 yards on 11 carries.

Rye girls’ soccer, the No. 6 team in the nation, defeated St. Luke’s 3-0 at home Saturday night. Lia Bellizzi netted two goals, and Tatiana Saunders made 10 saves. The Garnets are now unbeaten in 15 games dating back to last season, and have outscored opponents 39-4 during the streak. At Rye Country Day on Saturday, Kayti Faustini played superbly for the Wildcats in goal as the girls’ soccer team battled Fieldston to a 0-0 draw. Check back here today for more on this game.

The boys’ soccer team at Rye Country Day put together a solid performance at home Saturday, as they edged Cheshire Academy 2-0. Denzeyl Morris and Taylor Washington each scored a goal, and Andrew Shapiro made four saves for the shutout.

Rye Neck boys’ soccer team rebounded from a 1-0 OT loss at Westlake Saturday by winning the Irivington Tournament the next day. They defeated the tourney hosts in the championship game, 3-1. Adam Gutierrez scored two goals, and Adam Philippe added a third for the Panthers.

On Saturday at the Cheshire Invitational in Conn., Rye Country Day’s cross-country athletes were among several hundred runners that competed. Junior Brandyn Dougan placed 5th in the boys’ race, while sophomore Ashley Wolitzer finished 6th in the girls’ race.
