Morning Round-up: Four straight shutouts for Rye

Rye’s field hockey team continued to roll Wednesday in a 4-0 win against visiting Fox Lane. The victory was the fourth consecutive for the Garnets, as well as their fourth straight shutout. They are now 4-1-1, and have outscored opponents 11-0 during the streak.

Senior captain Torie Stearns led the way with two goals, and fellow senior captain Olivia Nabhan recorded two assists. G.G. Fitzgerald and Annie VanWagenen each had a goal. The defense was stellar, highlighted by the fact that goalkeeper Kaitlin Campbell didn’t have to make a single save.

Rye Neck’s field hockey team wasn’t as fortunate yesterday. They hit the road for a Valhalla visit, and lost the game 5-0. The tennis team at Rye Neck did get back on the winning track however, besting Westlake with 6-0 sweep.

In soccer action, the Rye Country Day girls traveled up to Taft School, a perennial Class A power. The Wildcats were within two goals of Taft for most of the game, but a late goal added up to a 4-1 loss. Rye Country Day’s lone goal was scored by Nicki Rosenbach on a great feed from Delaine Powerful, but the team had lots of chances as Taft keeper Lexi Dwyer’s 11 saves attests to. Kayti Faustini was in the net for RCDS for the first half and had five saves; Devon Kraus had eight in the second. Taft came into the game 2-0 with no goals scored on them. The Taft coach chose Powerful and sweeper Alex Sabatini as players of the game.

At home against Hamden Hall, the RCDS boyssoccer team fought to a 1-1 tie. Andrew Shapiro made two saves on the day, and Ian Tecklin put the Wildcats ahead 1-0 with five minutes left in the first half.

Holy Child’s soccer team lost on the road 2-1 to host Berkelly Carroll. Molly Schauber made 11 saves for the Gryphons, and Andrea Arnone netted the team’s lone goal.
