Garnets hit the road to face 2-0 Eastchester

Rye’s football team gets back on the gridiron — FINALLY — Saturday at Eastchester, in a clash of undefeated Class A teams. The Garnets most recently gained a victory because of a Saunders forfeit, and the Eagles are coming off of a nailbiting 13-12 win against Poughkeepsie.

Our boys in black won’t have played a game for little over two weeks by the time the 1:30 kickoff comes around. With that in mind the question is, will they show any rust, or will all that extra preparation for Dino Garr, Tom Maloney and co. equate to a clipping of the Iggles’ wings?

I’ll go with the latter. The Garnets looked like, well, The Garnets in their 21-6 win over Ossining. With Rye consistently being the smartest team on the field, I just don’t think all that added study time bodes well for Eastchester.

My pick is Rye 30, Eastchester 13, check that, Eastchester 6. The Garnets will begin to cement their status as Class A favorites.

Post YOUR prediction in the comments and maybe I’ll see you in Eastchester. Sadly, the regular season will be halfway over (!) when the game ends. Rye’s remaining schedule reads vs. Class B Sleepy Hollow, vs. Roosevelt, and at — OH YES — Harrison.
