Rye’s cross-country team had a near sweep September 22 at Nugent Stadium. Along with the Garnets, teams from Rye Neck, Pleasantville, Byram Hills, and Keio Academy participated in the meet.
“Both the boys’ and girls’ squads are filled with extremely talented athletes this season,” said Charles Carman, the girls’ head coach. “Boys’ coach Craig Sandhaus and I are very proud of them and expect the team as a whole to go far this season. They are a team worth keeping an eye on.”
The Rye girls’ team (5-0 overall) swept all four schools with seven athletes achieving a personal best, including Alison Mackay, Nagomi Ogura, Zoe Davitt, Caitlin Hartnett, Kahea Mueller, and Julia Pasqualini. The seventh girl, captain Sarah Krikorian, shaved an astounding three minutes off her best course time.
The boys’ team (4-1 overall) ran a solid race beating out all but Byram Hills. They had seven atheletes achieve a personal best and placed first. The top finisher was captain Max Robinson and the seven with personal bests were fellow captain Mason Curtis, Thomas Mayo-Smith, Gavin Conway, Dylan May, Tyler Conway, Kevin Spillane, and Jake Delaney.
